According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the average attention span of a human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013–one second less than the attention span of a goldfish.
So now more than ever the likelihood of someone sitting through your 15 minute video on how fantatstic your product is – is less than ever.
This means you need to be more creative in how you get your messages across. Using imagery is a quick and effective way to capture attention and convey information. This infographic from Widen shows why images are so important, especially in the social media age, and how you can use visual storytelling in your marketing.
Thank you for the interesting infographic Christopher! I agree with everything you said. However, in the marketing world, sometimes is more important to know very well your audience because when it comes to things like pictures, some segments will react different. And this doesn’t apply only to the images you choose, but also the text/picture ratio. For example the visitors of a entertainment site will react better to more picture than text in contrast to the visitors of a book review blog.
But to return on the main idea of the post, pictures are a important part of the social media and also the marketing strategy, as it is portrayed in this article (http://www.beaglecat.com/blog/the-importance-of-images-for-your-social-media-marketing-strategy/)
